Our Story

The Spark Behind H2Origin

In August 2022, while travelling overseas, our founder Dominic Appleby stopped at an airport water fountain to refill his cycling bottle — a small, sustainable choice on a long journey.

It should have felt like a win. But the experience fell flat. The fountain was plain and functional: a basic tap on a metal box. The water? Just standard tap — safe, but far from the cool, crisp and super clean refreshment you'd expect. Nearby, rows of bottled water in the retailers promised a far better experience.

That moment sparked a simple but powerful question: why can't the water bottle refilling experience feel just as good? It was the start of a mission — to reimagine public hydration. To make it cooler, cleaner, and genuinely enjoyable. A better choice that doesn’t feel like second best — for people and the planet. That’s where H2Origin began.

Rethinking Public Hydration

As Dominic dug deeper into the world of public water fountains, the problem became clear.

There simply weren’t enough refill stations, and the ones that did exist were often unappealing, inconvenient, or even out of order. If we want people to choose refillable bottles over single-use plastics, the experience needs to be exceptional.

That insight led to two years of development, solving the challenges that slow market adoption.

The result? H₂Origin Refills—smart, connected, premium water stations designed to make public hydration effortless, appealing, and widely available.

Our Mission: 50 million Refills by 2030

We’re on a mission to build a nationwide network of high-quality, intelligent water stations, delivering 50 million refills per year by 2030. But we can’t do this alone.

We’re looking to partner with forward-thinking, environmentally conscious organisations that recognise the urgent need to improve public hydration facilities, cut plastic waste, and track real impact through data.
